Body Awareness, Self Awareness — The Transcript

Tom’s University. Body Awareness, Self Awareness. Body Awareness, Self Awareness. Body Awareness, Self Awareness. That’s the focus of the classes today: “Body Awareness, Self Awareness.”

Life is really, really, really simple if you learn this skill; “body awareness, self awareness.”  Yes. Life will… your life will run well if you learn this skill. Your life will run awesomely if you learn this skill — to the degree that you learn this skill.

Body-awareness, self-awareness. Okay, body-awareness is really, really simple. It may not be easy because of your particular combination of automatic mental patterns.   And it’s simple.  “Body-awareness” — what does your body feel like right at this moment? That’s it! That’s what body-awareness is. What’s going on in your body right now? What does your face feel like? What does your… Yeah. What do all of the parts of your body feel like .  .  .  .  . Where IS your body and what is your body doing and what does your body feel like?   And what does your body need and what does your body… Yeah, all of that.   Body-awareness.   Body-awareness.   Your body is really, really important for your happiness, for your functionality, for your .  .  .  .  EVERYTHING!   Yeah, like without your body, you wouldn’t be. It’s that simple.

Body-awareness, body-awareness. If you are not aware of your body, what does that mean? And I’m going to say: “in our modern day culture, how many of us are really skilled at being aware of our bodies as we go through our daily lives?”   Well, I’m a telling us that the more skilled we are, the more consistent YOU ARE at being aware of your body, THE MORE IN CHARGE OF YOUR LIFE you’re going to be, the MORE HAPPY you’re going to be because when you’re… The more in charge of your life you are, the happier you are. So I’m going to say that again. The more aware, consistently aware of your body and the more skilled you are at being aware of your body throughout the day, the more in charge of your life you’re going to be. It’s that simple. And the converse is true, too. The less aware of your body — and I’m saying this with a lot of compassion for us human beings who are not very skilled at being in charge of our bodies, our attention — the less aware of your body you are during your average day, the less in charge of your life you’re going to be and the less happiness you’re going to have and the less functionality you’re going to have, and the less success you’re going to have.

And now there is a caveat to that. I mean, we may define success differently, .  .  .  .  but I’m… Yeah. So when I define success, it includes happiness. It includes consistent happiness. What I mean is, I know people who have been very financially successful, and they’re not happy. Their lives are miserable. Well, I don’t consider that as “success.”   I’m sorry. You may and that’s fine, but I don’t. Yeah, and I’m thinking of several people right now. Well, three specifically, real quick. Now, I could come up with more. Yeah. So body awareness .  .  . And they weren’t aware of their bodies. No. They weren’t in charge of their lives. Oh, I’m thinking of these three people that I know who are very financially successful .  .   . Well, I’m now… I’ve thought of another one. Very financially successful, in the terms of our American culture. Meaning they are rich in our culture. Not… You know, I’m not talking about the $10 billion dollar range or up, but I’m talking of the $5 million to $15 million range above, and in my life (and most people’s lives), that’s “rich.”  Well, now I thought of another one. Yeah. And wow, ah! They’re not… They weren’t… Well, some of them are alive, some aren’t. They weren’t in charge of their lives. Oh, I’m thinking of all the pain and unhappiness and drama and… Oh, oh. Yeah.

Okay. Back to the class. But that was maybe… I don’t know if that would be helpful or not. But it’s… If you want happy… Oh, that was about success and happiness. If you’re not happy, I don’t rate that as success. Okay, so “body-awareness, self-awareness.”  What I’m telling us, I’m telling you, I’m telling us, is that if you’re not skilled at being aware of your body… The less skilled you are at being aware of your body throughout the day consistently, I’m telling you the less in charge of your life you’re going to be. And the less in charge of your life you are, the less happy and functional and successful you’re going to be in your life. So back to… Yeah, body-awareness, self-awareness; being… Developing a skill of being aware of your body, what your body’s doing and feeling consistently throughout the day and continuing to build your skill at it if you… If you’re not highly skilled at it, is a key; is a simple, simple key for happiness and success and functionality, yeah.

So that’s the focus of the classes today; “body-awareness, self-awareness.” This is a skill. To be aware of your body is an attention skill, a consciousness skill, and you can improve your skill and your life will be improved. Your happiness will be improved. Your relationships will be improved. I promise you that.

That’s the class today, “body-awareness, self awareness”.
