Love the Details of This Moment — The Transcript

Tom’s University. Love the details of your life. Love the details of this moment. That’s the class today. That’s the principle I’m exploring today. Love the details of your life. Love the details of this moment.

This is a basic principle. This is a principle of happiness. This is a principle of success. This is a principle of life. Every moment love the details of your life, you’re aliveness, your life energy, your life vitality, your life reality in the moment, and love the details of this moment. Your life only happens in the present and this is a skill. As I’m saying it’s a basic principle and it’s a skill. It’s a skill of happiness. It’s a skill of success. It’s a skill of life. Yeah and if you want to be happy in your life I’m encou… I want to really… I want to urge you, I want to challenge you to motivate yourself to learn this skill of loving the details of your aliveness each moment and to learn the skill, they go together to, love the details of this moment.

This is an attentional skill. Yeah. Like how good are you at keeping your attention anchored in you in the reality of your aliveness and in the reality of the moment? How good are you? Okay. Well, the better are you at doing that, the better you are going to be at whatever it is that you’re doing. And you may be good at doing it in some areas of your life and not good at doing it in other areas of your life. Well, yeah, you can be anywhere on the skill continuum and you can improve your skill and if you improve your skill at loving the details of you, of your aliveness, of your alive energy in the moment, you’re going to improve your skill at whatever you’re doing.

Love the details of your life, your aliveness, your energy. Feel yourself, feel your life energy, be aware of your life energy. You can’t be successful at anything if you’re not aware of yourself. You can’t be successful at, yeah, at anything. So the people who are successful in any area at least they have one and in that area they’re able to do this. They’re able to be… Keep their attention in the present in this, whatever area they’re successful in. I’m thinking now an example of, let’s say… Well, I’ve been… I’m going to keep using the same example I’ve been using all day, snowboarding, okay? Well, I don’t know any professional snowboarders so this is just a hypothetical but just suppose there’s somebody at the pinnacle of snowboarding and this is the world champion or the United States champion or the Swiss champion of snowboarding, of whatever country, yeah, of the world. And… Well, in order to be a champion in snowboarding, in the moments that he’s snowboarding, he or she, he’s got to be really in charge of the life energy exquisitely every little muscle and every little bit of his or her body to do his or her peak performance for the snowboarding event, and he or she’s got to be exquisitely in charge of his and her attention to keep his or her attention right in this moment, this moment, this moment, this moment, this moment, every second of the race. Okay? Right? You get it? Now he or she may not, say, use the word loving their energy or loving their body aliveness or loving the present moment but I’m telling you they have those skills to the highest degree when they’re at their peak of snowboarding. They may call it, “I’m just really skilled at keeping my attention on all of my parts of my body.” That’s how they may frame it.

Well, love is paying caring attention and love is being right in the present moment. Yeah. That’s… That’s the… Okay? So, I’m telling you and I’m telling us, and I’m telling anybody who…who knows what I’m talking about that they have it in one area of their life, well, you do that with your mind. You do that when your snowboarding or whatever, rock-climbing or sky-diving or piloting an airplane or competitive dancing or just great dancing or martial arts, anything. To be good at it, you got to be doing more. I’m talking about these principles and you’re doing it with your attention. Okay? So if you can do it in that one area of your life, you can learn to do it in your daily life, in every aspect of your daily life, because it’s just an attentional skill. Who is in charge of your attention? Who is in charge of my attention? It’s got to be you, it’s got to be me, for each of us respectively. And the better, more skilled we are, the better… The more success we’re going to have, the more happiness we’re going to have, the more fulfilled life we’re going to have. That’s what this class is. That’s what every Tom’s University class is. Love the details of your life. Love the details of this moment. Just practice that, just coach yourself through the day: “Love the details of your life. Love the details…”   Say it to your self in coaching yourself, “Love the details of your life.” You keep getting it and getting it and getting it and what you need to do to really do it, to develop the skill of loving the details of your life, energy in the moment. “Love the details of this moment.”  Oh, wow! Coach your self, just even saying that for half an hour a day will change your life. Yeah. It’s a basic principle of success, a basic principle of happiness, a basic principle of life. Love the details of your life. Love the details of this moment.
