Why make the effort to be in charge of your attention every moment?    Because you’re alive, and your life needs to be taken care of.  .  .  .  .   and you’re the one who needs to take care of your life.   If you’re a grown-up or  a “grown-up in training,” you need to learn how to take care of your life, your aliveness,  the aliveness happening inside your body every moment, the aliveness happening inside your chest, and your face, and your brain, and your heart, and your lungs.  And if you’re not paying attention to your actual aliveness in the moment, you’re not going to be taking good care of your life in that moment.  That’s why, “ be in charge of your attention every moment.”

Okay, what about this effort piece? Well the effort piece is because you have automatic mental habits that distract you from being aware of the preciousness of your aliveness, the vitality of your aliveness, the energy of your aliveness. That’s why. You’ve got to make the effort to change those habits .  .  .  .  . and to develop the habit of being in charge of your attention every moment.
